Anonymous asked: For your post on micro crochet... eBay sells very small hooks with a rather wide handle. I've seen sets that go down to as small as .5mm..

ambrosial-wolf asked: I've been thinking about trying micro crochet. Do you happen to know anything about it / have any advice? (Especially about hook size because I'm having a hard time figuring this one out).
Micro Crochet is awesome!
For those who may not know, micro crochet is pretty much what it sounds like. Crochet, but teensy. My favorite examples from Su Ami:
I know a little about it, but I don’t do it myself.
For hooks, you generally want a 1.50mm or smaller. When you get to those smaller sizes, you want to make sure that the hook has a thicker handle, or that you put a thicker handle on to make the hook more comfortable for your hand. I’ve only seen metal hooks under 1.50mm, so I’m not sure if there are any in another materials.
Soft Touch hooks have an ergonomic handle and come in very small sizes. You can find them at Joann’s, as well. If anyone has more suggestions, please let us know!
Instead of using yarn, you use thread. The type of thread is just as varied as yarn selections. I would go with whatever thread is suggested by the pattern to begin with, and when you have more experience, then you can make changes or choices that fit your style better.

(I tried to find more patterns, but it seems that the basic rule of thumb is to take patterns and scale them down.)

Who doesn’t need a teeny, tiny snail? How cute would he look in a little terrarium or something?!
This thing was such a pain to make.
